Die wind waai sag oor Tafelberg.
The wind blows gently over Tafelberg.
Mist rolls over the peak, and the city's lights flicker in the distance.
Pieter, Annelie, and Thabo walk up the steep trail.
They feel the cold of the winter air on their cheeks.
Pieter se oë blink met opgewondenheid.
Pieter's eyes are shining with excitement.
In sy hand is 'n ou, verslete kaart.
In his hand is an old, worn-out map.
"Ek wonder of hierdie kaart regtig na iets toe lei," sê Annelie, haar stem vol twyfel.
"I wonder if this map really leads to something," says Annelie, her voice full of doubt.
"Dis deel van die avontuur!
"It's part of the adventure!"
" sê Thabo, sy oë vol stories.
says Thabo, his eyes filled with stories.
"Dink net aan die moontlikhede, die skatte!
"Just think of the possibilities, the treasures!"
"Maar Annelie het rede tot kommer.
But Annelie has reason for concern.
The trail is not easy, and the mountain is unpredictable.
Although the nature around them is beautiful with fynbos and rocky viewpoints, the path is uncertain.
Tog, Pieter voel die trek na ontdekking.
Yet, Pieter feels the pull towards discovery.
Hy is vasberade.
He is determined.
"Hou net aan stap," sê hy.
"Just keep walking," he says.
"We'll never know if we don't try."
Hours later, after much slipping and sliding over rocks and mud, the three reach a secluded spot.
The map shows a marker, a promise of treasures.
Pieter digs into a soft patch of ground, his fingers cold and covered with dirt.
"They might just laugh at us if we return with nothing," mutters Annelie.
Maar toe, 'n soliditeit onder die grond.
But then, a solidity beneath the ground.
Thabo helps to pull it out, and soon a small, old box lies before them.
Pieter se hart klop vinnig.
Pieter's heart beats fast.
Hul oë is groot van spanning.
Their eyes are wide with anticipation.
Pieter open die boks stadig.
Pieter slowly opens the box.
Binne is daar ou munte, verslyt en tog glansend.
Inside are old coins, worn yet shining.
Langs die munte is daar 'n ou brief.
Next to the coins is an old letter.
In die brief is 'n verhaal van 'n man wat lank gelede hierdie munte as herinnering verberg het aan 'n wêreld wat verby is.
In the letter is a tale of a man who long ago hid these coins as a memory of a world that has passed.
They read together, silently under the echo of the mountain wind.
The coins are less valuable than the story they carry.
Pieter now understands, it is the stories that matter, the memories that endure.
As they put the box back, he feels the value of history.
The discovery was not just gold, but rich in learning and meaning.
They have returned with a treasure greater than the coins could offer.
And with that knowledge, their walk back to the city is full of compassion, the mountain now carries more than just rocks — it carries a story.
