The morning fog over Barcelona had not yet dissipated when Martí and Núria arrived at the Mercat de la Boqueria.
It was a winter Saturday, and the market glowed with a mix of lively colors and captivating smells.
On the right, the stalls displayed fresh vegetables; on the left, the day's fish shimmered on their polished ice.
"Today is the big day," said Martí with a mix of excitement and nerves.
"My mother-in-law is coming for dinner, and it has to be perfect."
"Cristina just wants to have a good time," Núria replied with a calm smile.
"No ens preocupem per la perfecció."
"Let's not worry about perfection."
Martí took the cart with determination, focusing on the meticulously prepared list.
But he quickly realized they couldn't easily walk through the crowd.
"Com ho farem així?" va dir, inquiet.
"How will we manage like this?" he said, concerned.
As they moved forward patiently, they discovered that some of their favorite ingredients, like Montserrat tomatoes, were unavailable.
Martí va bufar frustrat. "No és el que esperava", va murmurar.
Martí sighed in frustration. "It's not what I expected," he murmured.
Núria, with her usual spontaneity, took his hand.
"Confia en mi. Ens adaptarem.
"Trust me. We can adapt.
Mira aquestes cebes tendres.
Look at these green onions. We can use them instead of the tomatoes," she suggested.
Initially, Martí wasn't convinced, but he saw Núria's confident smile and nodded.
Gradually, he started to let himself be carried away by the experience.
The smells of the spices, the murmurs of the vendors, the songs in the air... everything had a special charm.
Suddenly, as they moved through the meat section, Martí saw something that made him stop dead in his tracks.
There, among chickens and rabbits, was a piece of veal that shone with unsurpassable freshness.
It wasn't on his list, but Martí imagined it perfectly on his table.
Amb ànim renovat, va comprar la carn.
With renewed enthusiasm, he bought the meat.
Núria va somriure. "Veus? El mercat sempre et sorprèn."
Núria smiled. "See? The market always surprises you."
When they got home, Martí found pleasure in preparing the dinner, this time without anxiety.
When his mother-in-law tasted the food, she showed surprise and praised his culinary skills.
"Està deliciós!", va exclamar.
"It's delicious!" she exclaimed.
After dinner, while clearing the table, Martí took Núria's hand.
"Thank you for helping me see that what's important isn't just the result, but also the journey," he said sincerely.
Martí havia après que, a vegades, deixar-se portar per l'experiència i confiar en els instints —i en la Núria— podia crear moments inoblidables.
Martí had learned that sometimes letting himself be carried by the experience and trusting his instincts—and Núria—could create unforgettable moments.
Barcelona, with all its life, had taught him to be flexible and to find beauty in imperfection, just as Núria had always lived.
