The sun shone brightly that September afternoon, illuminating the park of the gated community in Barcelona where the leaves were starting to dress in shades of orange and gold.
Montserrat, only twelve years old, watched the children play under the grand oaks.
She felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness.
It was her first day at this new school, and she wanted to make friends, but she was afraid she wouldn't fit in.
As she watched, she saw Pere and Clara, two children her age, laughing and passing the soccer ball.
That game seemed very fun, and Montserrat debated whether to join or stay on the sidelines, shy.
"Come on, Montse," she told herself.
"Has de ser valenta.
"You have to be brave."
After taking a deep breath, she approached Pere and Clara.
"Puc jugar amb vosaltres?
"Can I play with you?"
" va preguntar amb un somriure vacil·lant.
she asked with a hesitant smile.
Pere gestured for her to join.
"Of course," he replied kindly.
Clara va picar-li l'ullet.
Clara winked at her.
Ja eren tres al camp.
Now there were three on the field.
Teamwork came naturally.
As they played, Montserrat began to feel more comfortable.
The fresh autumn air surrounded them, and the sound of shoes striking the ball filled the air with a familiar melody.
Her fears faded like clouds in the blue sky.
At one point in the game, the ball reached Montserrat's feet.
Amb decisió, va xutar amb força.
With determination, she kicked it strongly.
The ball flew directly toward the goal and entered with style.
A brilliant goal that left Pere and Clara speechless.
"Quin xut!
"What a shot!"
" van exclamar tots dos alhora.
they both exclaimed at once.
The surprise quickly turned into admiration.
"Ets tota una campiona!
"You're a true champion!"
" va dir Clara, picant-li la mà.
said Clara, giving her a high five.
Pere somreia orgullós.
Pere smiled proudly.
A pleasant warmth filled Montserrat's heart.
She had not only scored a goal but had also earned their respect.
After the game, Pere suggested going to have something cool to celebrate.
"Vens amb nosaltres, Montse?
"Are you coming with us, Montse?"
" va preguntar Clara amb entusiasme.
asked Clara enthusiastically.
Montserrat va assentir feliç.
Montserrat nodded happily.
The path to the park's fountain now seemed more inviting.
That afternoon, with the leaves crunching under their feet, Montserrat realized that the fear of not fitting in had evaporated.
Les paraules animadores de Pere i Clara li donaven confiança.
The encouraging words of Pere and Clara gave her confidence.
Little by little, the park and the new school were becoming her home.
La Diada was approaching, and Montserrat knew that this new beginning was the opportunity she had been waiting for.
After the soccer game and the outing with her new friends, she felt part of something special.
Ho havia aconseguit: formava part del grup, estimada i acceptada.
She had done it: she was part of the group, loved and accepted.
Fear had turned into friendships, and Barcelona into her new world.
