Její soused Marek byl skvělý na hádanky a právě on měl klíč k dalšímu kroku.

Her neighbor Marek was great with puzzles, and he was the one with the key to the next step.

„Zkusíme to rozluštit společně,“ navrhl, když mu Jana řekla o záhadném balíčku.

“Let's try to solve it together,” he suggested when Jana told him about the mysterious package.

Jana souhlasila.

Marek tápal, kresby si fotografoval a oba se pustili do pátrání.

Marek was hesitating, taking photos of the drawings, and both started investigating.

Věděli, že Karel, umělec pár dveří dál, měl poněkud zvláštní pověst.

They knew that Karel, an artist a few doors down, had a rather peculiar reputation.

Jeho umění často připomínalo zvláštní symboly z balíčku.

His art often resembled the strange symbols from the package.

Nebylo tedy divu, že Jana a Marek brzy zamířili k jeho dveřím.

So it was no surprise that Jana and Marek soon headed to his door.

Nádech tajemna přidával jejich cestě podzimní chlad.

Karel je přivítal s lehkou nervozitou v očích.

Karel welcomed them with a hint of nervousness in his eyes.

„Ten balíček...,“ začal Marek, když Jana přistoupila k věci.

“That package...,” Marek began as Jana got to the point.

Karel se napjal, ale poté s povzdechem přiznal.

Karel tensed but then admitted with a sigh.

Chtěl vrátit ukradené obrazy, které tajně chtěl dostat zpátky k původním majitelům, a vytvořil složitý systém vodítek a symbolů.

He wanted to return stolen paintings, which he secretly wished to get back to their original owners, and had created a complex system of clues and symbols.

S pocitem zklamání, ale i pochopení, Jana přikývla.

With a sense of disappointment but also understanding, Jana nodded.

Marek navrhl, aby Karel pracoval na způsobu, jak tyto kousky vrátit méně komplikovaně.

Marek suggested that Karel work on a way to return these pieces less complicatedly.

Karel přislíbil, že všechno napraví.

Karel promised he would make things right.

Když odcházeli, dýchl na ně chladivý podzimní vzduch.

As they left, the cool autumn air breathed upon them.

Jana se ohlédla a viděla v Karelovi člověka, který udělal chybu, ale taky někoho, kdo touží po nápravě.

Jana looked back and saw in Karel a person who made a mistake but also someone who desired reparation.

Marek se směrem k ní usmál.

Marek smiled at her.

Spojil je zmatený balíček a teď také nově vzniklé přátelství.

A confusing package had united them and now also a newly formed friendship.

S každým krokem zpět domů, obklopeni šelestením podzimního listí, Jana pochopila, že život je složitý, stejně jako lidé, které potkáme.

With each step back home, surrounded by the rustling of autumn leaves, Jana understood that life is complex, just like the people we meet.
