His heart especially burned with the desire to win the Best Pumpkin competition.

Měl však skrytý plán – ohromit své přátele Janě a Petrovi.

However, he had a hidden plan – to amaze his friends Jana and Petr.

Obří dýni, kterou pro tento účel vypěstoval, však nedomyslel – jak se do ní dostal, tak v ní i uvízl.

The giant pumpkin he had grown for this purpose proved troublesome – how he got into it, he also got stuck in it.

Karel si uvnitř dýně představoval obdiv a smích přátel, ale když skončil s pouze rukama trčícíma ven, rychle si uvědomil, že je v pasti.

Inside the pumpkin, Karel imagined the admiration and laughter of his friends, but when he ended up with only his arms sticking out, he quickly realized he was trapped.

Karel se mezitím snažil z vesela volat: „Haló, nenechávejte mě tady, podívejte!“ Avšak zpočátku bez úspěchu.

Meanwhile, Karel tried cheerfully calling out, "Hello, don't leave me here, look!" However, initially without success.

Když se čas na soutěž blížil, Karel začínal být zoufalý.

As the time for the competition approached, Karel began to grow desperate.

V tom se však Jana a Petr vynořili mezi stromy.

But then, Jana and Petr appeared among the trees.

Karel dychtivě zamával.

Karel eagerly waved.

“Koukněte, to je Karel!" smála se Jana.

“Look, it's Karel!” laughed Jana.

"Co to tam děláš?” dodal s úsměvem Petr.

"What are you doing there?" added Petr with a smile.

Společnými silami se pustili do práce a opatrně pomohli Karlovi vypáčit se z jeho oranžového vězení.

Together, they set to work and carefully helped Karel pry himself out of his orange prison.

Když byl konečně na svobodě, s vděčným pohledem pohlédl na své přátele.

When he was finally free, he looked at his friends gratefully.

Soutěžící kolem se už připravovali na porotce, kteří postupně obcházeli dýně.

Competitors around were already preparing for the judges, who were gradually making their rounds among the pumpkins.

Napětí vrcholilo, když porota dorazila ke Karlově dýni.

The tension peaked when the judges arrived at Karel's pumpkin.

Vyprávěl jim svůj příběh, a soudci se smáli tak, až se za břicho popadali.

He told them his story, and the judges laughed so hard they were holding their sides.

Pohotovost a humor zachránily den.

Porota ocenila Karla speciální cenou za kreativitu.

The judges awarded Karel a special prize for creativity.

Na konci dne Karel stál vedle Jany a Petra, ve světle podzimního slunce šťastný a spokojený.
