Ar wasgar o eira a rhew, mae'n haf yn y Tundra Arctaidd.
Scattered with snow and ice, it is summer in the Tundra Arctaidd.
Enghraifft o anialwch brithion, ond hefyd o harddwch digymar, yw'r safle ymchwil yma.
An example of patchy wilderness, but also of unparalleled beauty, is this research site.
Mae pyst y station bach, syml, yn gludo'r adeilad wrth y ddaear rhewllyd.
The posts of the small, simple station anchor the building to the icy ground.
Un diwrnod, wrth i'r gwyntoedd oer chwiban-harmonïo, roedd Gwenllian yn sefyll ar linell yr orwel, sbectrwg wrth law.
One day, as the cold winds whistle-harmonized, Gwenllian stood on the horizon line, spectroscope in hand.
Roedd hi'n astudio'r dyfroedd iâ gyda tharebion newydd.
She was studying the ice waters with new methods.
Gwenllian oedd arbenigwr ar fioleg forol gyda golwg dropynog dros chwyldroi ei maes trwy darganfod mawr.
Gwenllian was an expert in marine biology with a droplet's eye on revolutionizing her field through major discoveries.
Wrth sodro ei sbectrwg, dyma hi'n gweld rhywun yn dodgei'n trwy'r eira.
While adjusting her spectroscope, she saw someone dodging through the snow.
Aled ydoedd, coedwigwr tawel ond angerddol, un synamor â'r amgylchiadau arctig.
It was Aled, a quiet yet passionate forester, as astonished as the Arctic conditions.
“Bore da, Aled,” meddai Gwenllian, â'i llais yn atseinio'n y gwynt oer.
"Good morning, Aled," said Gwenllian, her voice echoing in the cold wind.
“Mae'r môr heddiw yn ymddangos yn llonydd.” Roedd hi'n tynnu eiliad i gydystyried ei eiriau.
"The sea today appears calm." She took a moment to consider her words.
“Bore da, Gwenllian,” atebodd Aled, tra'n gwyro ymlaen at awyr y tu hwnt,
"Good morning, Gwenllian," replied Aled, while glancing towards the sky beyond,
“ond mae'r awyrgylch yn ddigon dryslyd. Rwy'n darogan eira yn fuan.”
"but the atmosphere is quite confusing. I predict snow soon."
Arhosodd fel hyn am rai munudau. Gwylio'r môr a'r nef.
They remained like this for a few minutes, watching the sea and the sky.
Sbardun gan wefr dirgel, Gwenllian oedd y cyntaf i ddarogan fwy.
Driven by a mysterious thrill, Gwenllian was the first to propose more.
“A wyt ti'n fodlon ymuno â mi i archwilio ffurfiant iâ lleol? Rwyf wedi gweld rhai siapiau difyr iawn.”
"Are you willing to join me in exploring the local ice formations? I've seen some very interesting shapes."
Wrth fflachio gwen wamal, Aled cytunodd.
Flashing a whimsical smile, Aled agreed.
Dechreuon nhw’r daith gyda'i gilydd.
They began the journey together.
Gwmpasodd yr iâ acw i agweddau newydd gan droseddu troellau rhewllyd gyda'u hysbryd benderfynol.
They circumnavigated the ice there to new perspectives, traversing icy spirals with their resolute spirit.
Ond er mwyn i'r tywydd ddod yn waeth, gwasangen nhw gario'n eu ymlaen hyd at y caban bychan gerllaw ymhen traflyncin.
But as the weather worsened, they had to carry on to the small cabin nearby, ultimately reaching it with difficulty.
Roeddent wedi'u trwyddo gan ysgafnder y symudiadau, er eu bod yn gwybod bod rhaid iddynt aros yno tan y storm ffarwelio.
They were overcome with the lightness of movement, knowing they had to stay there until the storm passed.
Y tu mewn, gyda'r gwynt yn berwi tu allan, cawsant gyfle i siarad yn agored.
Inside, with the wind boiling outside, they had a chance to speak openly.
“Mae'n anodd iawn, Gwenllian,” dechreuodd Aled yn ddiamddiffyn.
"It's very difficult, Gwenllian," Aled began vulnerably.
“Gallaf weld eich angerdd chi dros eich astudiaethau, ond mae rhywbeth arall yr un mor bwysig. Cwmni da.”
"I can see your passion for your studies, but there's something else just as important. Good company."
Gwenllian, erbyn hyn mewn ymdrech i ymennydd, atebodd:
Gwenllian, now in an attempt to think, replied,
“Mae'r uned hon yn unig iawn. Rwyf bob amser wedi bod yn siwr o fy nod, ond mae yma offeryn cynnig ystyrriaeth hefyd.”
"This unit is very solitary. I've always been sure of my aim, but there's a tool here that offers consideration too."
Wrth i'r storm sleifio ymaith ar garlam cynnar ynyd, daeth y ddau allan.
As the storm sneaked away on an early burst of energy, the two emerged.
Roedd yr awyr bellach yn glir, yn llonydd fel cusan tawel o dirwylltoedd yr Arctaidd.
The sky was now clear, still as a quiet kiss from the Arctic's wilderness.
Er iddynt fynd yn ôl at eu gwaith, roeddent yn gyfoethocach gan y cyswllt a wnaed.
Though they returned to their work, they were enriched by the connection made.
O'r dydd hwnnw ymlaen, roedd Gwenllian yn ffeindiau cydbwysedd rhwng ei uchelgeisiau a'i rhwymau personol mewn gobaith na aiff y ddau byth yn flasu'r unigedd hynny eto gyda'r gwynt.
From that day forward, Gwenllian found a balance between her ambitions and her personal bonds in hope that they would never taste that solitude again with the wind.
