  • Lars og Freja gik tur.

Lars and Freja went for a walk.

  • Det var i København.

    It was in Copenhagen.

  • Solen skinnede.

    The sun was shining.

  • Himlen var blå.

    The sky was blue.

  • De var glade.

    They were happy.

  • De nåede torvet.

    They reached the square.

  • Der var mange boder.

    There were many stalls.

  • En bod havde is.

    One stall had ice cream.

  • En anden havde syltede sild.

    Another had pickled herring.

  • Lars havde lyst til is.

Lars was in the mood for ice cream.

  • Freja ville gerne have sild.

Freja wanted to try the herring.

  • De købte begge dele.

    They bought both.

  • Lars fangede en sild med sin is-pind.

Lars caught a herring with his ice cream stick.

  • Han tænkte, "Hov, er det en lokal delikatesse?

He thought, "Hmm, is this a local delicacy?"

  • " Han smagte på den.

    He tasted it.

  • Det smagte mærkeligt.

    It tasted strange.

  • Men han spiste den alligevel.

    But he still ate it.

  • Freja løftede et øjenbryn.

    Freja raised an eyebrow.

  • Hun sagde, "Lars, det er forkert.

    She said, "Lars, that's wrong.

  • Det er ikke en delikatesse.

    It's not a delicacy."

  • " Men hun lo.

    But she laughed.

  • Lars følte sig lidt pjattet.

    Lars felt a little silly.

  • Men han grinede også.

    But he laughed too.

  • Havde det ikke været en delikatesse, havde det været sjovt alligevel.

If it hadn't been a delicacy, it would have been funny anyway.

  • Næste dag var magen god i København.

The next day was just as good in Copenhagen.

  • Solen skinnede igen.

    The sun was shining again.

  • De ville smage flere retter.

They wanted to try more dishes.

  • Men denne gang uden is.

But this time without ice cream.

  • De grinede over det.

    They laughed about it.

  • Lars sagde, "Mon der findes meget mærkeligt mad her?

Lars said, "I wonder if there are many strange foods here?"

  • " Freja svarede, "Ja, Lars!

    Freja replied, "Yes, Lars!

  • Hver by har mærkelig mad.

    Every city has strange food."

  • " De grinede mere.

    They laughed even more.

  • Til sidst, de prøvede alt godt i København.

In the end, they tried all the good things in Copenhagen.

  • De elskede byen.

    They loved the city.

  • Især det mærkelige mad.

    Especially the strange food.

  • Og de elskede hinanden.

    And they loved each other.

  • Det var en god ferie.

    It was a great vacation.

  • Og det hele startede med syltede sild på is.

And it all started with pickled herring on ice.
