  • Lars kiggede ud af vinduet.

    Lars looked out the window.

  • Det sneede i København.

    It was snowing in Copenhagen.

  • Hyggeligt, tænkte han.

    Cozy, he thought.

  • Lige ved siden af ham sad Signe.

Sitting right beside him was Signe.

They were chatting with their foreign friend - Mark.

  • Mark fattede ikke 'hygge'.

Mark didn't grasp the concept of 'hygge'.

  • De prøvede at forklare det.

They tried to explain it to him.

  • Mark nikkede.

    Mark nodded.

  • Men han forstod det ikke rigtigt.

    But he didn't quite understand.

  • Lars og Signe tænkte.

    Lars and Signe pondered.

  • Hvordan kunne de vise, hvad 'hygge' betød?

How could they show what 'hygge' meant?

  • "Vi går til Nyhavn," sagde Lars pludselig.

"Let's go to Nyhavn," suddenly said Lars.

  • Signe nikkede.

    Signe nodded.

  • De tog Mark med til Nyhavn.

    They took Mark to Nyhavn.

  • Nyhavn var smukt.

    Nyhavn was beautiful.

  • Mark kunne se de farverige huse.

Mark could see the colorful houses.

  • En båd sejlede forbi.

    A boat sailed by.

  • Mennesker lo og snakkede.

    People were laughing and talking.

  • Mark følte sig godt tilpas.

    Mark felt comfortable.

  • Men, var det 'hygge'?

    But, was this 'hygge'?

  • Han var ikke sikker.

    He wasn't sure.

  • Mørket begyndte at falde på.

    Darkness began to descend.

  • Mark frøs.

    Mark felt cold.

  • Signe så det.

    Signe noticed.

  • "Kom," sagde hun.

    "Come," she said.

  • "Vi skal til et varmt sted.

"We'll go to a warm place."

  • "De fulgtes til en hyggelig café.

They made their way to a cozy café.

  • Her var varmt.

    It was warm there.

  • Lys blinkede blødt.

    Soft lights blinked.

  • Folk sad og snakkede.

    People were sitting and talking.

  • De satte sig ved et bord.

    They sat at a table.

  • En venlig kvinde kom til dem.

    A friendly woman approached them.

  • "Hva' så, hva' skal det være?

"What can I get for you?"

  • " spurgte hun.

    she asked.

  • Sigende bestilte kakao til dem alle.

They ordered hot cocoa for everyone.

  • Snart kom de dampende krus.

    Soon, steaming mugs arrived.

  • De drak den varme kakao.

    They sipped the warm cocoa.

  • De grinede og snakkede.

    They laughed and talked.

  • Mark kiggede rundt.

    Mark looked around.

  • Han følte sig glad.

    He felt happy.

  • Han følte sig hjemme.

    He felt at home.

  • "Er det 'hygge'?

    "Is this 'hygge'?"

  • " spurgte han.

    he asked.

  • Lars og Signe nikkede.

    Lars and Signe nodded.

  • "Ja," sagde de.

    "Yes," they said.

  • "Det er 'hygge'.

    "This is 'hygge'."

  • "Mark smilte.

    Mark smiled.

  • Han kunne godt lide 'hygge'.

    He liked 'hygge'.

  • Han forstod det nu.

    He understood it now.

  • Og han vidste, han ville savne det.

And he knew, he would miss it.

  • Senere gik de tilbage til deres lejlighed.

Later, they returned to their apartment.

  • De tændte for pejsen.

    They lit the fireplace.

  • De satte sig i sofaen.

    They settled on the sofa.

  • De kiggede på flammerne.

    They watched the flames.

  • De snakkede, lo og nød hinandens selskab.

They talked, laughed, and enjoyed each other's company.

  • Mark følte en indre ro.

    Mark felt an inner peace.

  • Han følte sig elsket.

    He felt loved.

  • Han følte sig hjemme.

    He felt at home.

  • "Det er 'hygge'," tænkte han.

    "This is 'hygge'," he thought.

And it became his favorite word from that day on.

And thus, amidst the cold Copenhagen, Mark learned to love the Danish 'hygge'.

And Lars and Signe were happy to share this unique concept with him.

It was a good evening, full of 'hygge'.

And it would happen many times in the future.

Now, whenever Mark thought of 'hygge', he would always think of Lars, Signe, the cozy café, and their warm apartment in Copenhagen.
