Lars and Freja lived in Copenhagen.
The city was cold and gray, but people always felt warm.
De kaldte det "hygge".
They called it "hygge."
One day, they met a friend from South America.
He was from a warm country where "hygge" did not exist.
Lars and Freja wanted to teach him about this Danish tradition.
They said, "Let's go to our favorite café.
Det er hyggeligt".
It's cozy."
Cafén var fyldt med varme farver.
The café was filled with warm colors.
Folk lo, snakkede og drak kaffe.
People laughed, talked, and drank coffee.
Der var stearinlys og bløde puder.
There were candles and soft cushions.
The friend found it nice but didn't quite understand.
"Er dette hygge"?
"Is this hygge?"
spurgte han.
he asked.
Men Lars og Freja bare smilede.
But Lars and Freja just smiled.
"Det er en del af det".
"It's a part of it."
So, they all went back to Lars and Freja's small apartment.

The friend sat down with them, and they started cooking.
It wasn't fancy, just a simple dish.
Men de lavede det sammen.
But they made it together.
De snakkede, ler, og nød hinandens selskab.
They talked, laughed, and enjoyed each other's company.
Efter middagen tændte de for pejsen.
After dinner, they lit the fireplace.
They sat there for hours, just talking and belly laughing.
De drak varm kakao og spiste kage.
They drank hot cocoa and ate cake.
They told stories and had a good time.
Det var meget roligt og afslappende.
It was very calm and relaxing.
På det tidspunkt begyndte venen at forstå.
At that moment, the friend began to understand.
"Hygge" was not just a place or a thing.
Det var en følelse.
It was a feeling.
A feeling of being at home, of feeling loved and accepted.
Hygge was being with those you love, in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

He traveled back to his warm country.

He would tell his friends and family about this Danish tradition.
He would teach them that one can be "hyggelig," no matter where they are or who they are with.
Og Lars og Freja?
And Lars and Freja?
De blev glade.
They were happy.
They knew they had taught their friend about "hygge."
And they knew he would bring it with him.
De var glade for, at de havde delt deres hygge med en ven.
They were happy that they had shared their hygge with a friend.
And that, my friends, is also a part of "hygge."
