Tallinna vanalinn säras suvises päikesepaistes.
Tallinna old town shone in the summer sunshine.
The narrow streets were full of people who came to watch the charity marathon.
Märdi süda kloppis kiiremini kui kunagi varem.
Märdi heart was beating faster than ever.
He stood near the starting line, nervous about his injured ankle.
Märt oli lubanud koguda raha lastehaiglale ja see lubadus hoidis teda rajal.
Märt had promised to raise money for the children's hospital, and that promise kept him on track.
Liina ja Kalle seadsid end valmis raja kõrvale.
Liina and Kalle positioned themselves by the track.
They were Märdi friends and came to support him.
"Märt, ole ettevaatlik," ütles Liina murelikult.
"Märt, be careful," said Liina worriedly.
Märt nodded, even though he knew his injury might cause problems.
Kui maraton algas, jooksis Märt ettevaatlikult.
When the marathon began, Märt ran cautiously.
He felt the cobblestones of the old town streets beneath him and knew that every wrong step could cost him dearly.
Kuid kohusetunne ja soov teha midagi head laste heaks andsid talle jõudu edasi liikuda.
But a sense of duty and a desire to do something good for the children gave him the strength to keep moving.
Esimestel kilomeetritel oli kõik korras.
In the first kilometers, everything was fine.
Inimesed kilkasid ja ergutasid jooksjaid.
People cheered and encouraged the runners.
Kalle ja Liina lehvitasid raja äärest, pakkudes Märdile veepudeleid.
Kalle and Liina waved from the side of the track, offering Märt water bottles.
Märt naeratas ja tundis end kindlana.
Märt smiled and felt confident.
However, when half of the kilometers had been covered, his ankle started to hurt more intensely.
Keset võistlust, olles sammunud läbi vanalinna ja mööda Raekoja platsi, juhtuski see.
In the middle of the race, having stepped through the old town and past Raekoja square, it happened.
He felt a sharp pain and fell onto the cobbled street.
Inimesed tema ümber peatusid ja vaatasid murelikult.
The people around him stopped and watched worriedly.
"Ei, see ei saa nii lõppeda," mõtles Märt, kui valu läbi tema keha lõikas.
"No, it can't end like this," thought Märt as pain cut through his body.
He tried to get up, but his leg wouldn't support him.
Samal hetkel jõudsid Kalle ja Liina temani.
At that moment, Kalle and Liina reached him.
Nad toetasid teda püsti ja aitasid lähimasse meditsiinitelki.
They supported him to his feet and helped him to the nearest medical tent.
Meditsiinitelgis oli rahulik.
Inside the medical tent, it was calm.
Arstid vaatasid Märdi jala üle.
Doctors examined Märdi leg.
"Sul on vaja puhata ja paraneda," ütles arst kindlalt.
"You need to rest and recover," the doctor said firmly.
He knew it was the only sensible decision.
Hiljem, kui kolm sõpra päikesepaistelisele platsile istusid, mõistis Märt midagi olulist.
Later, as the three friends sat on the sunny square, Märt realized something important.
"Tänan teid, et te aitasite mind," ütles ta.
"Thank you for helping me," he said.
"Ma pean õppima oma piire tundma.
"I need to learn to know my limits.
Lastehaigla toetamine on oluline, aga terve olemine on veelgi tähtsam."
Supporting the children's hospital is important, but being healthy is even more crucial."
Kalle ja Liina naeratasid.
Kalle and Liina smiled.
They knew Märt had made the right choice.
Tallinna vanalinnas, kus keskaegsed hooned vaatasid vaikides pealt, tundis Märt, kuidas rahu tema südamesse naases.
In Tallinna old town, where medieval buildings silently observed, Märt felt peace returning to his heart.
Even though he hadn't finished the marathon, he had taken an important step for his future.
