  • Lá breá samhraidh a bhí ann, agus bhí an ghrian ag scoilteadh na gcloch i lár Bhaile Átha Cliath.

It was a beautiful summer's day, and the sun was splitting the stones in the middle of Dublin.

  • Bhí Seamus, Caoimhe, agus Niamh ag iarraidh éalú ón teas le súil go bhfaighidís sólás i dteach tábhairne beomhar.

Seamus, Caoimhe, and Niamh wanted to escape from the heat in the hope of finding solace in a lively tavern.

  • Bhí an teach tábhairne lán le daoine ag ól, ag gáire, agus ag caint.

The tavern was full of people drinking, laughing, and talking.

  • Shiúil an triúr isteach agus shuigh siad ag bord gar don bhfuinneog chun an radharc álainn den sráid a fheiceáil.

The three walked in and sat at a table near the window to see the beautiful view of the street.

  • Bhí Seamus ag iarraidh rud éigin fionnuar le n-ól agus d'ordaigh sé beoir le liomáid – deoch a oibríonn go maith le beagán siúcra.

Seamus wanted something cool to drink, and he ordered a beer with a slice – a drink that works well with a little sugar.

  • Tháinig an freastalaí leis an deoch agus chuir sí amach é os comhair Seamus.

The server brought the drink and placed it in front of Seamus.

  • Bhí Seamus ag baint taitnimh as an gcomhrá le Caoimhe agus Niamh, agus gan mórán smaointe air, sheol sé a lámh chun an tsiúcra a fháil le cur leis an deoch.

Seamus was enjoying the conversation with Caoimhe and Niamh, and without much thought, he reached his hand to get the sugar to add to the drink.

  • Ach, a thiarcais!

    But oh dear!

  • Rinne se botún mór.

    He made a big mistake.

  • Seachas an tsiúcra, fuair sé salann agus chuir sé go trom é isteach ina bheoir gan féachaint.

Instead of sugar, he got salt and he put it heavily into his beer without looking.

  • D’ól sé go domhain as a ghlainne, ag súil le blas milis, sásúil.

He drank deeply from his glass, expecting a sweet, satisfying taste.

  • Ach a luaithe a bhuail an leacht lena ghabhal, leath straoilleach ar a aghaidh - bhí a bhéal lán salainn!

But as soon as the liquid hit his palate, half disgusted - his mouth was full of salt!

  • Rinne Caoimhe agus Niamh iarracht gan gáire a dhéanamh, ach bhí an radharc róghreannmhar.

Caoimhe and Niamh tried not to laugh, but the sight was too funny.

  • "Ó mo chroí!

    "Oh my goodness!"

  • " arsa Seamus, aghaidh dhearg le náire.

said Seamus, his face red with embarrassment.

  • "Is salann é sin, ní siúcra!

    "That's salt, not sugar!"

  • "Bhí gáire ag teacht ó gach cúinne den teach tábhairne.

Laughter erupted from every corner of the tavern.

  • Ach Seamus, cé go raibh sé báite i salann, ní raibh sé sásta géilleadh.

But Seamus, even though he was immersed in salt, wasn't willing to give in.

  • D'ordaigh sé deoch eile - an uair seo, d'fhéach sé go cúramach lena dhéanamh cinnte gur siúcra a chuir sé isteach.

He ordered another drink – this time, he looked carefully to make sure he added sugar.

  • Ón lá sin amach, bhí aithne ar Sheamus mar an fear a d’ól salann in áit siúcra.

From that day on, Seamus became known as the man who drank salt instead of sugar.

  • Ach bhí sé in ann gáire a dhéanamh air féin.

But he was able to laugh at himself.

  • Agus bhí ceacht foghlamtha aige – súil siar agus súil chun cinn sula dtógann tú slog!

And he learned a lesson – look back and look ahead before taking a gulp!

  • An deireadh maith, beannacht le gach aon droch-scéal, agus chomh maith leis sin, d'éirigh le Seamus, Caoimhe, agus Niamh oiche den scoth a chaitheamh le chéile, ag magadh agus ag gáire go dtí gur thit an oíche.

In the end, despite the bad experience, and with that, Seamus, Caoimhe, and Niamh managed to have a great night together, joking and laughing until the night fell.
