  • Lá breá gréine a bhí ann, agus bhí an ghaoth ag séideadh go séimh thar bharr na n-aillte.

It was a beautiful sunny day, and the gentle wind was blowing over the hills.

  • Bhí Eileen, cailín óg le gruaig fhada rua, imithe ar cuairt chuig Aillte an Mhothair cúpla míle ó Bhaile na hAbhann.

Eileen, a young girl with long red hair, had gone for a walk to Aillte an Mhothair, a couple of miles from Ballynahown.

  • Bhialann céim léi a cairde Sean agus Aoife, ach chuadar rompu agus d'fhág siad Eileen ina diaidh.

She was accompanied by her friends Sean and Aoife, but they went ahead of her, leaving Eileen behind.

  • Faoi gheasa ag an radharc iontach, rinne Eileen iarracht teacht suas le Sean, a raibh culaith uaine á caitheamh aige an lá sin, chun comhrá a dhéanamh faoi áilleacht na n-áiteanna a bhí timpeall orthu.

Captivated by the wonderful sight, Eileen tried to catch up with Sean, who was wearing a green jacket that day, to have a conversation about the beauty of the places surrounding them.

  • Bhí sí ag siúl agus ag siúl, ach ní raibh rian ar bith de Sean ná Aoife le feiceáil.

She was walking and walking, but there was no trace of Sean or Aoife to be seen.

  • Ansin, i gcéin, chonaic sí figiúr in éadaí uaine ina seasamh gan tairiscint os comhair na farraige.

Then, in the distance, she saw a figure in green clothing standing silently by the sea.

  • "Sean!

    "Sean!

  • Sean!

    Sean!"

  • " ghlaoigh Eileen, ag siúl níos gasta i dtreo an fhigiúir.

called Eileen, walking faster towards the figure.

  • Ach nuair a tháinig sí níos gaire, thuig sí go tobann nach Sean a bhí ann, ach caora mhaol uaine a bhí ina seasamh, ciúin mar a bheadh duine.

But when she came closer, she suddenly realized that it wasn't Sean standing there, but a quiet, green-haired sheep.

  • Bhí tréigean ar Eileen agus í anois ag balbhú leis an gcaora, ag ceapadh go raibh sí ag caint lena cara!

Eileen felt abandoned and was now dumbfounded by the sheep, thinking she was talking to her friend!

  • Chuir an eispéireas náire mhór uirthi.

The experience brought great shame upon her.

  • Ní raibh fios ag Eileen cá dtéigh sí le haghaidh cabhrach nuair a chuala sí gáire ard sa spéir glas.

Eileen didn't know where to turn for help when she heard loud laughter in the green sky.

  • Casadh sí timpeall agus ansin chonaic sí a cairde, Sean agus Aoife, ag tarraingt anuas an cnoc ag gáire faoin mearbhall a bhí ar Eileen.

She turned around and then saw her friends, Sean and Aoife, rolling down the hill laughing at the confusion Eileen was in.

  • "Ó Eileen, is tú atá greannmhar!

"Oh Eileen, you are so funny!"

  • " a dúirt Aoife, ag sileadh le deora áthais.

said Aoife, wiping tears of joy.

  • Dúirt Sean, ag iarraidh a gháire a choinneáil istigh, "Chonaic muid an t-uafás!

Sean, trying to contain his laughter, said, "We saw everything!

  • Chonaic tú caora agus shíl tú gur mise é!

You saw a sheep and thought it was me!"

  • "Bhí beagán náire ar Eileen ar dtús, ach níorbh fhada gur thosaigh sí féin ag gáire chomh maith.

Eileen felt a little embarrassed at first, but it wasn't long before she joined in with laughter.

  • Rinne siad magadh faoi an chuid eile den lá, ag siúl na n-aillte agus ag tabhairt aghaidh ar an ngaoth.

They teased each other about the rest of the day, walking the hills and facing the wind.

  • Ag deireadh an lae, sular fhág siad Aillte an Mhothair, d'fhéach Eileen, Sean, agus Aoife ar an ngrian ag luí os cionn na farraige agus bhí gáire eatarthu.

At the end of the day, before leaving Aillte an Mhothair, Eileen, Sean, and Aoife looked at the sun setting above the sea and they were laughing.

  • Bhí ceacht foghlamtha ag Eileen an lá sin – go mb'fhéidir an rud is cosúil ní hé an rud céanna agus go bhfuil cairde ann chun cabhrú leat nuair a dhéanann tú botún.

Eileen learned a lesson that day – that perhaps things that seem alike are not the same and that there are friends to help you when you make a mistake.

  • Agus leis sin, d'imigh siad abhaile le cuimhní a mhairfeadh go deo.

And with that, they went home with memories that would last forever.
