Wind-Swept Words of Love
Bhí lá breá grianmhar ann agus bhí Eoin agus Saoirse ag siúl go sona sásta cois na haille álainn i gCliffs of Moher.
It was a beautiful sunny day, and Eoin and Saoirse were happily walking by the beautiful cliffs at the Cliffs of Moher.
Bhí Eoin croíúil agus cróga ach bhí cúthail ó dhúchas agus bhí grá mór le fada aige do Saoirse.
Eoin was lively and brave, but there was a natural shyness about him, and he had long held deep love for Saoirse.
Bhí plean aige í a mhealladh le focail milse na filíochta.
He had a plan to charm her with sweet words of poetry.
Agus iad ag druidim leis an imeall, thóg Eoin anuas leabhrán d'fhilíocht Ghaeilge óna phóca, lámhscríbhinn sean agus caite.
As they neared the edge, Eoin took out a book of Irish poetry from his pocket, an old handwritten manuscript.
Bhí seanchas ann de véarsaí deanta ag filí móra na hÉireann.
It contained verses crafted by the great poets of Ireland.
Bhí sé cinnte go mbeadh claonadh dearfach ag Saoirse má chloisfeadh sí an bhfilíocht.
He was sure Saoirse would have a positive inclination if she were to hear the poetry.
Bhain Eoin tús áite le dán grá, a línte lán le gean agus mothúcháin dhomhain.
Eoin began with a love poem, his lines full of affection and deep emotions.
Ach, díreach mar a d'oscail sé a bhéal chun an chéad líne a labhairt, shéid gaoth láidir ón Aigéan Atlantach agus sciob sí na focail díreach sula dtiocfadh siad chuig cluasa Saoirse.
But just as he opened his mouth to speak the first line, a strong wind blew from the Atlantic Ocean and snatched the words before they could reach Saoirse's ears.
Bhí Saoirse ag breathnú ar aghaidh Eoin agus é ag béal oscailte, ach níor chuala sí aon ghlór.
Saoirse was looking at Eoin with an open mouth, but she didn't hear any voice.
"Cad a bhfuil tú ag iarraidh a rá liom, Eoin?
"What are you trying to tell me, Eoin?"
" a d'fhiafraigh sí le hamhras.
she asked doubtfully.
Bhí Eoin ar mire.
Eoin was embarrassed.
Rinne sé iarracht arís agus arís, ach gach uair a bhí sé réidh le labhairt, thógfaí na focail uaidh agus chaitear leo isteach sa mhuir.
He attempted again and again, but each time he was ready to speak, the words were taken from him and thrown into the sea.
Ag deireadh thiar, mhothaigh Eoin beagánín bídeach agus thit sé ina shuí ar an bhféar glas ag filleadh ar ais ón imeall.
Finally, Eoin felt a little dejected and sat on the green grass while returning from the edge.
Bhí díomá air agus é ag smaoineamh go mbeadh Saoirse in amhras faoi a chroí.
He felt disappointed and thought that Saoirse would doubt his heart.
Ach ansin, thug Saoirse faoi deara an díomá ina shúile agus shuigh sí lena thaobh.
But then, Saoirse noticed the disappointment in his eyes and sat beside him.
"Ní gá duit aon fhilíocht," ar sise go réidh, "tá a fhios agam cé chomh fial is atá do chroí gan é.
"You don't need any poetry," she said calmly, "I know how generous your heart is without it."
" Agus ansin, las sí iontas saor le gáire te agus bhlaiseadh a cuid súl den ghrá i súile Eoin.
And then, she filled him with genuine surprise and warm laughter, tasting her fill of love in Eoin's eyes.
Theannta sin, ghlac Saoirse leabhrán na filíochta ó lámha Eoin agus thosaigh sí ag leamh na ndánta go ciúin dó.
In addition, Saoirse accepted the poetry book from Eoin's hands and began reading the poems to him softly.
Bhí an ghaoth ciúin anois, agus chroch ceol na filíochta san aer go binne binn.
The wind was calm now, and the music of the poetry hung sweetly in the air.
Go tobann, thuig Eoin nach raibh gá le cleasanna ná taispeántais mhóra chun Saoirse a chur ina luí.
Suddenly, Eoin realized that there was no need for tricks or grand gestures to win over Saoirse.
Bhí a gcroíthe níos cumhachtaí ná aon ghaoth, ag comhrá díreach le chéile faoin ngrá a roinn siad.
Their hearts were more powerful than any wind, conversing directly with each other about the love they shared.
Agus díreach ansin, ar imeall Cliffs of Moher, aithin Eoin agus Saoirse go raibh a ngrá do chéile níos láidre ná aon fhilíocht, agus thóg siad a gcéad chéim eile le chéile i dtreo todhchaí nua spleodrach.
And right there, on the edge of the Cliffs of Moher, Eoin and Saoirse realized that their love for each other was stronger than any poetry, and they took their next step together towards a bright new future.
