Finding Balance: Love and Adventure at the Cliffs of Moher
Bhí an ghrian ag spalpadh ar maidin agus an t-aer lán le teas an tsamhraidh.
The sun was blazing in the morning and the air was full of the summer heat.
Bhí Niamh agus Cillian ag tiomáint go dtí na hAillte Mhothair.
Niamh and Cillian were driving to the Cliffs of Moher.
Bhí an bóthar fada rompu, ach bhí áthas ar Niamh.
The road ahead of them was long, but Niamh was happy.
Bhí sí ag tnúth go mór leis an eachtra.
She was really looking forward to the adventure.
"An bhfuil tú réidh?" a d'fhiafraigh sí le gáire mór ar a haghaidh.
"Are you ready?" she asked with a big smile on her face.
"Tá, ach caithfimid cloí leis an bplean," a d'fhreagair Cillian go ciallmhar.
"I am, but we must stick to the plan," Cillian replied sensibly.
Bhí sé buartha faoi rud éigin mícheart a dhéanamh.
He was worried about doing something wrong.
D'éirigh an bóthar níos géire agus níos casúla.
The road became steeper and more winding.
Chonaic siad an fharraige ag bualadh na haille.
They saw the sea crashing against the cliff.
Bhí na tonnta ag luascadh go fiáin.
The waves were wildly rolling.
Bhí áilleacht iontach sa radharc.
The view was incredibly beautiful.
Ach níor chóir go mbeadh rudaí chomh ciúin i gcónaí.
But things should not always be so calm.
"Cad é sin thall?" a dúirt Niamh agus í ag síneadh a méar i dtreo cosán beag folaithe.
"What is that over there?" Niamh said, pointing her finger towards a hidden path.
"Níl sé ar an léarscáil," a dúirt Cillian go fánach.
"It's not on the map," Cillian said casually.
"Seans go bhfuil sé speisialta," a dúirt Niamh le súile lán d'eachtra. "Feicimid."
"Maybe it's special," said Niamh, her eyes full of adventure. "Let's see."
Bhí amhras ar Cillian, ach chinn sé ligean dó.
Cillian was doubtful, but he decided to go along.
Bhí Niamh ag gáire go háthasach agus í ag siúl thart.
Niamh was laughing happily as she walked around.
Lean sé í go drogallach.
He reluctantly followed her.
Bhí an cosán clúdaithe le féar fada agus driseacha.
The path was covered with long grass and brambles.
Bhí sé deacair é a leanúint.
It was difficult to follow.
Ach i gceann tamaill, bhí siad os comhair radharc iontach.
But after a while, they were in front of an amazing view.
Bhí na haillte ag cur amach go fiáin agus an fharraige níos mó ná riamh.
The cliffs stretched out wildly and the sea was bigger than ever.
"Nach bhfuil sé álainn?" a dúirt Niamh.
"Isn’t it beautiful?" said Niamh.
Bhí sí ag mothú saor.
She felt free.
Ach bhí Cillian scanraithe beagán.
But Cillian was a bit frightened.
Bhí an ghaoth ag éirí agus na scamaill ag tiomsú.
The wind was picking up and the clouds were gathering.
"Tá an aimsir ag athrú," a dúirt sé go féinmhuiníneach.
"The weather is changing," he said confidently.
"Ba chóir dúinn dul ar ais."
"We should go back."
"Níl gá le heagla," arsa Niamh leis an díograis mar ba ghnách léi.
"There’s no need for fear," said Niamh with her usual enthusiasm.
"Táimid ceart go leor."
"We are okay."
D'éirigh an aimsir go tobann níos measa.
The weather suddenly worsened.
Bhí an ghaoth ag séideadh go láidir agus na scamaill dorcha ag gabháil ar aghaidh.
The wind was blowing strongly and dark clouds were moving in.
Bhí Niamh fós ag cuimhniú ar an eachtra, ach dúisíodh Cillian leis an scéal má tá siad in ann a bheith sábháilte?
Niamh was still thinking about the adventure, but Cillian was awakened to the question of whether they could be safe.
"Ní féidir linn fanacht anseo," a mhaíomh sé.
"We can't stay here," he insisted.
Thosaigh an t-argóint ag borradh idir iad.
The argument started to heat up between them.
"Ní thuigeann tú an fonn eachtra a bhíonn orm," a dúirt Niamh go dian.
"You don't understand the urge for adventure I have," said Niamh intensely.
"Agus ní thuigeann tú an tábhacht a bhaineann leis an sábháilteacht," d'fhreagair Cillian.
"And you don't understand the importance of safety," replied Cillian.
Bhí an fóschtúirge nóiméad ait acu ag barr na haille.
They had a strange moment of silence on top of the cliff.
Ansin, d'fhéach Niamh go domhain isteach i súile Chillian.
Then, Niamh looked deeply into Cillian's eyes.
"Táimid difriúil," a dúirt sí, "ach is féidir linn foghlaim óna chéile."
"We are different," she said, "but we can learn from each other."
D'aontaigh Cillian.
Cillian agreed.
"Tá grá agam duit, Niamh, fiú agus tú níos spontaneous."
"I love you, Niamh, even when you are more spontaneous."
"Agus tá meas agam ar do phleananna, Cillian," a dúirt sí, ag titim isteach ina lap.
"And I respect your plans, Cillian," she said, falling into his lap.
Shocraigh siad dul ar ais leis an mbealach slán, ach lena n-intinn ar oscailt níos mó ná riamh roimhe seo.
They decided to return via the safe route, but their minds were more open than ever before.
Bhí an baile cinnte, ach bhí a gcaidreamh níos láidre.
The destination was certain, but their relationship was stronger.
Ag deireadh a dturais, d'fhéach siad siar ar na hAillte Mhothair, a bhí fós álainn agus fiáin.
At the end of their trip, they looked back at the Cliffs of Moher, still beautiful and wild.
Bhí a fhios acu go raibh níos mó sa saol ná líonadh pleananna.
They knew there was more to life than following plans.
Bhí meas acu ar a chéile, ar na difríochtaí a raibh grá acu dóibh.
They appreciated each other, and the differences they loved.
D'fhág siad Co. an Chláir le cairdeas láidir agus tuiscint níos doimhne.
They left Co. Clare with a stronger friendship and a deeper understanding.
Bhí an taisteal go dti na hAillte Mhothair tar éis gurb iad fós í Nice go raibh spás aca suí as a chéile faoin solas samhraidh.
The journey to the Cliffs of Moher had ended, but they still had space to grow together under the summer lights.
