ヒロシの家はいつも賑やかでした。

Hiroshi’s house was always lively.

庭には大きな門松（かどまつ）が立ち、玄関にはしめ飾りが掛かっていました。

A large kadomatsu stood in the garden, and a shimekazari hung at the entrance.

これは毎年のお正月の伝統でした。

This was an annual New Year tradition.

ヒロシは亡くなった両親を偲んで、この飾りを立派に整えるのが好きでした。

Hiroshi liked to decorate brilliantly in memory of his deceased parents.

しかし、新しい隣人のサクラはヒロシの飾りが華やかすぎると思っていました。

However, his new neighbor Sakura thought Hiroshi's decorations were too extravagant.

「もっとシンプルにしたらどうですか？」と提案しました。

She suggested, "Why not make it simpler?"

サクラは小さな子供の母親で、家の前がこんなに派手だと少し恥ずかしいと感じていました。

Sakura was a mother with young children and felt a bit embarrassed that the front of the house was so flashy.

ヒロシの姪、ユキはおじを大切に思っていました。

Hiroshi’s niece, Yuki, cared deeply for her uncle.

ヒロシの家を訪ねると、「おじさん、サクラさんが言っていたことを聞きました。どうするの？」と優しく尋ねました。

When she visited Hiroshi's house, she kindly asked, "Uncle, I heard what Sakura said. What will you do?"

ヒロシは葛藤していました。

Hiroshi was conflicted.

「親のためにこの伝統を続けたい。でも、近所と争いたくはない」と悩みました。

"I want to continue this tradition for my parents, but I don’t want to quarrel with the neighbors," he pondered.

ある寒い夕方、ヒロシはついにサクラと話し合うことになりました。

One cold evening, Hiroshi finally decided to have a conversation with Sakura.

「サクラさん、私の飾りは確かに目立ちますね。でも、これは私にとって大切なことです」と伝えました。

He expressed, "Ms. Sakura, my decorations do stand out, indeed. But this is important to me."

サクラも理解しようと努め、「そうですね、伝統は大事です。でも、お互いに気持ちよく過ごしたいです」と答えました。

Sakura made an effort to understand and replied, "Yes, traditions are important. However, we want to live comfortably with each other."

その晩、ユキはヒロシの家で考えました。

That night, Yuki thought at Hiroshi's house.

「おじさん、私に少し手伝わせてください」とユキは言いました。

"Uncle, let me help a little," Yuki suggested.

「伝統を大切にしながら、少し現代らしくできるかもしれません」。

"We might be able to maintain tradition while making it a bit more modern."

ヒロシはユキの提案を受け入れることにしました。

Hiroshi decided to accept Yuki's proposal.

門松はそのままにし、ほかの飾りを少し控えめにしました。

They kept the kadomatsu as it was and toned down other decorations.

そしてユキは小さなLEDライトを使ってシンプルで素敵な飾りを作りました。

Then Yuki used small LED lights to create a simple and beautiful design.

新年を迎えると、サクラも他の隣人も「バランスが良くなりましたね！」と評価しました。

When the New Year arrived, Sakura and the other neighbors remarked, "It’s well balanced now!"

ヒロシは嬉しそうに振り返りました。

Hiroshi looked back happily.

「大事なのは心です。伝統も、みんなが喜べる形にできればもっと嬉しい」。

"What matters is the heart. If we can shape traditions in a way that makes everyone happy, it’s even better."

彼はこうして、伝統と変化の調和を学びました。

In this way, he learned the harmony between tradition and change.

そしてまた、雪の降る中、ヒロシの心は温かくなりました。

And once again, as the snow fell, Hiroshi’s heart warmed.

親の思い出を大切にしながら、新しいことへ一歩進めた満足感に包まれました。
