His name was Nikolay.
On that autumn day, he was heading to the Park Society of Utopia.
It was his first visit there.
The park was utopian and joyful.
The leaves on the trees had turned gold and crimson.
Laughter and music resonated in the park.
Everywhere, colorful lanterns were hung, preparing for the Unity Day celebration.
Nikolay sighed.
He remembered his former love, Anastasia.
She was the complete opposite of him—brave, cheerful.
But he still hoped that something could rekindle between them.
However, fear haunted him.
"What if she's forgotten?
What if she has someone else?"
he thought.
That was why he decided to go to the celebration.
Viktor, their mutual friend, said that Anastasia would be there.
He also hinted to Nikolay that she still had feelings for him.
"This is your chance, Kolya," Viktor said with a smile.
The hour was nearing the start of the lantern lighting ceremony.
People gathered in the main square of the park, while tall, decorated poles stood around.
Among the crowd, Nikolay noticed her.
Anastasia—she was standing a little aside, looking at the lanterns.
Nikolay's heart skipped a beat.
He slowly approached her.
"Anastasia," he said quietly.
She turned around, and her eyes sparkled.
"Kolya!"
she said, and her smile warmed his anxious heart.
They began to talk.
To Nikolay, it felt as if all the years of separation vanished in an instant.
The music quieted, and it was time to light the lanterns.
Nikolay knew the moment had come to speak about his feelings.
"Nastya, I still love you," he said, looking straight into her eyes.
Anastasia smiled even wider.
"Kolya, I never forgot you either."
Around them, the lanterns blazed up, and the crowd cheered.
They stood, looking into each other's eyes, the glowing flames reflected in them.
They understood that this was a new beginning.
Nikolay felt that he was no longer afraid.
He had found courage and knew that taking the risk could lead to happiness.
They held hands, and the celebration continued.
Both felt that this Unity Day had also become their day of reunion.
