  • Ján stál pred dverami nemocnice.

Ján stood in front of the hospital doors.

  • V ruke držal darček.

    He was holding a gift.

  • Každú návštevu pre svoju sestru Petru vždy niečo priniesol.

Every visit to his sister Petra he always brought something.

It was his need to show her that she was not alone.

Outside there was snow, icy flakes gently falling to the ground.

  • Pätnásť minút čakania sa zdalo nekonečných.

Fifteen minutes of waiting seemed endless.

  • Nakoniec sa dvere otvorili a on vstúpil do klinickej miestnosti.

Finally, the doors opened, and he entered the clinical room.

  • Psychiatrická oddelenie bolo tiché.

    The psychiatric ward was quiet.

  • Na stenách viseli obrázky s motivačnými textami.

Pictures with motivational texts hung on the walls.

  • V rohu miestnosti bzučala slabá klimatizácia.

In the corner of the room, a weak air conditioner buzzed.

Ján felt his heart beating calmly, but internally he was conflicted.

He knew he had to be there for Petra, but at home, his wife and two small children were waiting for him.

  • Keď Petra vošla, zdvihol hlavu.

When Petra entered, he looked up.

  • Vyzerala lepšie ako predchádzajúci týždeň.

She looked better than the previous week.

  • Malý úsmev sa mu objavil na perách.

A small smile appeared on his lips.

  • "Ahoj, sestrička.

    "Hello, little sister.

  • Mám pre teba niečo," povedal a podal jej balíček.

I have something for you," he said and handed her the package.

  • Petra sa usmiala a jemne si ho vzala.

Petra smiled and gently took it.

  • "Ďakujem, Ján.

    "Thank you, Ján.

  • Pomáhaš mi viac, než si myslíš," povedala.

You're helping me more than you think," she said.

  • Jej hlas bol tichý, ale pevný.

Her voice was quiet but firm.

  • Sadli si oproti sebe a začali sa rozprávať.

They sat opposite each other and began to talk.

  • Petra vedela, že jej brat je vyčerpaný.

Petra knew that her brother was exhausted.

She knew it was hard for him to balance his time between her and his family.

  • "Nechcem, aby si tu bol zbytočne dlho," povedala.

"I don't want you to be here unnecessarily long," she said.

  • "Tvoja rodina ťa potrebuje.

    "Your family needs you."

He felt bad that he couldn't always be where he was needed.

  • "Snažím sa, Petra.

    "I'm trying, Petra.

  • Chcem byť pre teba aj pre nich.

I want to be there for you and for them.

  • Ale je to ťažké.

    But it's hard."

  • "Objatia sú najlepšou psychológiou, povedal si v duchu Ján.

Hugs are the best psychology, Ján thought to himself.

  • Postavil sa a objal svoju sestru.

He stood up and hugged his sister.

  • Pocítilo, akoby z nej padal kus ťažkej opony.

He felt as if a heavy curtain was lifted from her.

  • "Budeme to robiť inak," povedal nakoniec.

"We'll do things differently," he finally said.

  • Petra súhlasne prikývla.

    Petra nodded in agreement.

  • "Nechcem, aby si stratil rovnováhu.

"I don't want you to lose your balance.

  • Postaráme sa o to spolu.

We'll take care of it together.

  • Možno raz za mesiac prídete všetci.

Maybe once a month you all come.

  • Urobíme si malý rodinný deň.

We'll have a little family day."

  • "Vtedy Ján pocítil úľavu.

    Then Ján felt relief.

  • Vedel, že to bude správne.

He knew it would be right.

Czech Christmas had already passed, but the New Year seemed like a new beginning.

  • "Áno, to by bolo fajn.

    "Yes, that would be nice.

And you will write to us every day about how you're doing," he added with a smile.

  • Petra sa rozžiarila.

    Petra beamed.

  • Cítila podporu, vedela, že nie je sama.

She felt supported, knowing she wasn't alone.

Ján and Petra promised each other that they would support each other and respect their own needs.

Outside it was freezing, but in the hearts of these siblings, warmth was developing.

  • Niekedy stačí len jednoduchý rozhovor a plán, aby sa všetko zlepšilo.

Sometimes all it takes is a simple conversation and a plan to make everything better.

With this knowledge, Ján left, determined to make his life a better place for himself and for those he loves.
