Statues & Snickers: A Ljubljana Mix-Up
One sunny afternoon, Maja decided to take a walk through the old city center of Ljubljana.
The city was bustling with life, and Maja was looking forward to meeting Luka, her good friend.
They had arranged to meet at the Prešeren monument, a well-known rendezvous spot for friends and lovers.
Maja, who sometimes had trouble distinguishing faces, approached the monument and saw what she thought was Luka.
"Hej Luka, kako si?
"Hey Luka, how are you?"
she asked cheerfully, without taking a good look.
She continued explaining how excited she was to see him and told him about a funny incident that had happened to her that day.
In reality, she was talking to a statue that looked very much like Luka.
The real Luka was standing a little ways off, observing the scene.
He was barely able to contain his laughter as he watched Maja casually talk to the statue and gesture with her hands to emphasize her stories.
After a few minutes, Maja finally realized her mistake.
She looked around and caught sight of Luka’s smiling face.
A blush spread across her face, and they both burst out laughing.
"Luka, zakaj me nisi takoj ustavil?
"Luka, why didn't you stop me right away?"
" je vprašala med smehom.
she asked amidst laughter.
Luka, who was now laughing uncontrollably, replied, "It was too much fun watching you talk so nicely to the statue.
Mislim, da imaš novega občudovalca!
I think you've gained a new admirer!"
Maja lightly tapped him on the shoulder, but she couldn't contain her laughter.
From then on, this became their favorite anecdote, which they shared over coffee in the shade of the magnificent Ljubljana church.
Maja and Luka discovered that no matter the confusion and clumsiness, true friends always find their way back to each other - and that every mistake can be just another reason for laughter and joy.
And so, Maja and Luka turned a small mistake into a lasting memory of friendship, one paved with statues, laughter, and the streets of Ljubljana.
