  • Matej je sedel v svoji sobi.

Matej was sitting in his room.

  • Zunaj so listi počasi padali na vrt.

Outside, the leaves were slowly falling onto the garden.

Autumn was wrapping the children's home in Ljubljana in soft orange and brown colors.

  • Matej je gledal skozi okno.

    Matej watched through the window.

He saw older kids making a pile of leaves in the garden, laughing and jumping on it.

  • A Matej se ni pridružil.

    But Matej didn't join them.

  • Danes je bil poseben dan.

    Today was a special day.

  • Prišli bodo potencialni posvojitelji.

    Potential adopters would be coming.

The smell of freshly baked bread wafted through the home.

Matej breathed in the scent, which calmed him.

  • Potem je vzel svojo mapo z risbami in se odpravil v skupni prostor, kjer so čakali Tanja in Irena.

Then he took his folder with drawings and headed to the common room, where Tanja and Irena were waiting.

  • Bile so nove obraze zanje in zanj.

There were new faces for them and for him.

  • "Zdravo," je rekla Tanja z nasmehom.

"Hello," said Tanja with a smile.

  • Sedela je poleg Irene.

She was sitting next to Irena.

  • Njune oči so toplo sijale.

    Their eyes shone warmly.

  • Matej je pokimal.

    Matej nodded.

  • Njegovo srce je bilo težko.

    His heart was heavy.

  • "Zdravo," je tiho odgovoril.

    "Hello," he replied quietly.

  • Sedli so za mizo.

    They sat at the table.

  • Pogovarjali so se o šoli, Matejevem življenju v domu in njegovih hobijih.

They talked about school, about Matej's life in the home, and about his hobbies.

  • Matej je sramežljivo odgovarjal.

    Matej answered shyly.

  • Bil je tiho in premišljen, z rahlim nasmehom.

He was quiet and thoughtful, with a slight smile.

  • Irena je opazila mapo.

    Irena noticed the folder.

  • "Matej, kaj je to?

    "Matej, what is this?"

  • " je vprašala prijazno.

    she asked kindly.

  • "Moje risbe," je rekel Matej.

    "My drawings," Matej said.

  • Bil je okleval.

    He hesitated.

  • Risanje je bilo njegov svet – njegov skriti prostor.

Drawing was his world—his hidden space.

  • "Bi jih pokazal?

"Would you show them to us?"

  • " je vprašala Tanja z iskrenim zanimanjem.

    asked Tanja with genuine interest.

  • Matej je pogledal mapo in potem Tanjine oči.

Matej looked at the folder and then into Tanja's eyes.

He decided to show them one drawing.

It was a picture of the garden in winter, with big bright stars in the sky.

  • Njegova ljubezen do detajlov in barv je oživela na papirju.

His love for details and colors came to life on the paper.

  • "To je čudovito!

    "This is wonderful!"

  • " je rekla Irena.

    said Irena.

  • "Imam enako sliko v mislih vsako zimo," je dodala Tanja.

"I have the same picture in my mind every winter," added Tanja.

Matej smiled for the first time, feeling a bit more hopeful.

  • "Hvala," je rekel.

    "Thank you," he said.

Tanja and Irena admired him as if they truly saw his heart.

"If you ever want to learn more about drawing, we would be happy to help," said Irena.

  • Matej je čutil, kako mu srce postaja lažje.

Matej felt his heart growing lighter.

  • Pogledal je svojo risbo in potem Tanjo in Ireno.

He looked at his drawing and then at Tanja and Irena.

  • Gradila se je zaupanje – nežna, a prisotna.

    Trust was building—gentle but present.

  • Ko so odhajali, je Matej gledal za njimi skozi okno.

As they were leaving, Matej watched them through the window.

The leaves were falling again, but now he was filled with the feeling that he could belong somewhere—that he could join a new family, and despite the fear, be accepted as he is.

In his room, he opened the folder again and added a new drawing—a home that not only holds memories but also offers a chance for a new beginning.
