Matej stood behind his stall at the central Ljubljana market.
The cold winter wind blew through the rows of vendors who were trying to sell their goods that day.
The New Year was just around the corner, but holiday fatigue was evident on the faces of passers-by.
"Matej, the cold is worse today than usual," said Ana, his colleague, while warming her hands with tea.
"Bomo zmogli, Ana.
"We'll manage, Ana. We just need to wait for the right strategy," Matej replied optimistically, hoping that with a few changes, he would attract more customers.
Matej je začel razmišljati o tem, kako izboljšati prodajo.
Matej began thinking about how to improve sales.
Zložil je jabolka in hruške v barvitih piramidah in obesil rožne girlande nad stojnico.
He stacked apples and pears in colorful pyramids and hung floral garlands above the stall.
Then he decided to offer special discounts on seasonal fruit.
"Ana, I think we need to offer customers something they can't refuse," he said.
Ana je dvomljivo kimala.
Ana nodded doubtfully.
"No, poskusiva.
"Well, let's try. But don't aim too high. People only wander around the market to see the lights."
Toda Matej se ni predal.
But Matej didn't give up.
V joku hladnega vetra in pod sijem novoletnih luči je vztrajal.
In the cry of the cold wind and under the glow of the New Year's lights, he persisted.
Postavil je velik znak: "Novoletni popust - sveže in lokalno!".
He put up a large sign: "New Year's Discount - fresh and local!"
Sprva je bil tržni vrvež precej umirjen.
At first, the market hustle was quite calm.
A ko je sonce počasi zdrsnilo za obzorje in so luči zažarele še svetleje, so ljudje začeli prihajati.
But as the sun slowly slipped behind the horizon and the lights shone even brighter, people began to come.
Initially cautiously, then they started stopping at his stall.
Hitro so opazili njegov trud in fantastične cene.
They quickly noticed his effort and fantastic prices.
"Matej, glej, tvoj načrt deluje!" je Ana navdušeno opazila, ko so ljudje z vrečkami stali v vrsti.
"Matej, look, your plan is working!" Ana observed excitedly as people stood in line with bags.
Matejeva vztrajnost se je obrestovala.
Matej's persistence paid off.
Sales increased, and by the end of the day, he and Ana had sold almost all their stock.
Ko sta pospravila stojnice, je Matej pogledal Ano in rekel: "Vidiš, včasih je potrebna le malce ustvarjalnosti in truda."
As they packed up the stall, Matej looked at Ana and said: "You see, sometimes all it takes is a little creativity and effort."
Ana se je nasmehnila.
Ana smiled.
"Maybe you're right, Matej. Maybe your optimism showed me that fresh ideas really can change things."
And so they left the market with a sense of satisfaction and hope that the New Year would bring even more success and new opportunities.
