Stepping onto the fragrant carpet of mowed hay, the golden autumn fields around the village seemed not only like land but a piece of each resident's soul.

Here, near the small village in the Ukrainian countryside, lived Oksana and Dmytro, two inseparable friends since childhood.

Oksana sat on a warm swath of hay, gazing at the horizons bathed in sunlight.

She enjoyed the autumn colors—yellow, orange, red—that enveloped the surrounding groves.

    But her heart was heavy.

Dmytro was preparing to go to the city, and this news hit Oksana like a cold rain.

"Dmytre," she spoke with a slight tremor in her voice when she saw him approaching.

Their eyes met, and she noticed a lively sparkle of dreams in them.

    "What happened, Oksano?"

he asked, sitting down next to her.

The wind lifted his hair, playing with it like a cat's ball of yarn.

    "Why are you leaving?"

Oksana asked quietly, looking at him.

"I want to try something new," Dmytro replied, gritting his teeth slightly.

"There are opportunities in the city.

    Work, studies.

I want to live a big life."

    Oksana understood his desire.

She knew Dmytro was always a dreamer.

But she couldn't reconcile with his departure.

    "And our village?

    Our shared moments?

    Isn't it important anymore?"

"It will always be important," Dmytro assured her.

"But I have so much more to see."

Oksana sighed, clenching her fists in anxiety.

She needed to say what she had been putting off for too long.

"I'm afraid we'll lose our friendship," she admitted.

    "I'm afraid everything will change."

"And I'm afraid too," Dmytro agreed, turning to her.

"But change is a part of life.

I promise to visit and maintain our connection."

    Dmytro's words made Oksana ponder.

They sat in silence for a long time, listening to the wind whisper among the trees, as if encouraging them both.

Dmytro didn't want to leave his roots, but the world beyond their small community was calling him.

In the end, they stood up, shook hands, and hugged, knowing this was not an end, but a new beginning.

Oksana accepted with resignation that changes are inevitable.

As a farewell, Dmytro smiled and said: "I'll come back."

And although they would go their separate ways, their friendship would remain, strengthened by sincere words and promises.

In her heart would remain the memory of this autumn conversation, and in his, a piece of that place that would always be their shared home.
